Vyasa Puja celebration at New Delhi
Devotees of Delhi and NCR region celebrated the 61st Vyasa Puja celebration of His Holiness Jayapataka Swami Maharaj at Delhi temple with great pomp.
In the morning Mangal Arti when it was announced that today is the Vyasa Puja of His Holiness Jayapataka Swami devotees began to rejoice with great joy.
Formal ceremony started at the temple hall from morning 9 a.m onwards. Devotees and all the well wishers started the programme with recitation of Narasingha Kabaca for speedy recovery of Jayapataka Swami. It was followed by Vaishnav Bhajana lead by Dinanayak Prabhu with the Bhajan ‘Guru Dev Kripa Bindu Diya ----‘. The whole atmosphere surcharged with emotional longing for Guru Maharaj. Eyes of the devotees moistened with tears as the bhajan reached its climax. The bhajan created such a transcendental atmosphere that it once again revived Guru- Sishya relation afresh.
In the morning at the temple hall the video recording of Maharaj’s messages was delivered through a big screen. All the devotees assembled temple hall to listen the messages of Maharaj.
Senior devotees Rishi Kumar Das first addressed the gathering of the devotees while throwing light on life and activities of Jayapataka Swami. His narration was very succinct and full of interesting facts about Maharaj. He handled the whole programme nicely.
His Holiness Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj highly glorified Jayapataka Swami. He remembered those days in Montreal where he used to have association of Jayapataka Swami.
“In those days Jayapataka Swami used to work in restaurant to earn money for the temple. Since then he had the mood to serve Prabhupad’s mission. While coming to India he faced lots of difficulties as foreign devotee. But he never discouraged. Prabhupad sent him to Mayapur to develop it. Maharaj was also in South India’s GBC. Under his direction lots of preaching has been done in South India. He also oversees congregational preaching. The contribution of Jayapataka Swami to GBC is immense. Since he joined Prabhupad’s mission he is always in the mood to further the mission as much as possible by undertaking any austerity required,” says Gopal Krishna Maharaj.
But the main attraction of the Vyasa puja this time was presence of Carlos A. Yrigoyen Frono, the ambassador of Peru. The Peru ambassador came at 11.30 and remained there for whole programme. He delivered a nice speech on the occasion-
“GURUR BRAHMA GURUR VISNUH GURUR DEVO MAHESVARAH
GURUH SAKSATPARAM BRAHMA TASMAI SRIGURAVE NAMAH”
The whole Creation is as vast and unlimited as its own Creator. And we are inseparable part of both as the reality of the Oneness beyond Lila and Maya. From this universal perspective, to be born in Milwaukee or to be reborn in Mayapur or in New Delhi is perfectly equal as far as the Divine Grace permeates all and reaches all. And John Gordan Erdman saw it all long time before 1949, as Srila Prabhupada himself confirmed that he as well as two other devotees was formerly associates of Lord Caitanya.
Some of us have been born in the Eastern side of this world as some others made it in the Western, in order to facilitate spreading Krishna consciousness around the whole world. I remember having read the Mahabharata when I was 14 years old (45 years ago) and discovered the greatness of the Bhagavad Gita, as the very same core of this magnificent piece of Indian culture who displays the unity of mankind despites spaces and times.
However, few endeavours in the world has been more successful and deserves our entire acknowledgement as that one that spreads the text and message of the Bhagavad Gita as His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada does, through the life and devotion of such disciples -now Gurus- as the Maharaja Jayapataka Swami himself. It is really remarkable to observe the path of his evolving to reach that same universality of origin and destiny.
He has visited so many countries all over the world that has become not only an Indian by adoption, but a citizen of the whole Universe. His visits to Peru, where I come from with my wife Regina, Bolivia, Chile, and Ecuador, as well as other places in South America in 1980 gave a new impulse to the spirituality of thousands of people.
The mission accomplished by Maharaji all these 41 years is to enlighten humanity crossing the barriers of all boundaries is really wonderful
It is a particular privilege to thank him by his important seva as Zonal Secretary of ISKCON in Peru, having as he has so many other duties and responsibilities to observe and to accomplish in both realms of the Visible and the Invisible. And it is also a grace to share with all of you this particular opportunity of the Vyasa Puja Festival 2010 that he certainly deserves.
Because, it is through the grace of the Guru that the disciple finally discovers himself and the Unity of this whole diversity: I offer my obeisance to Jayapataka Maharaj on this very auspicious day. All glories to Maharaj”, says Carlos A. Yrigoyen Frono, the ambassador of Peru in his speech. Later the Ambassador joined the Arti and Pushpanjali. He also joined the prasad ceremony.
Vice-president of the temple B.N Das started his glorification with high praises of the Jayapataka Swami. “It is due to the hard labour of Jayapataka Swami that today Mayapur is flourishing. He is blessed by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to lead the mission of Prabhupad. Besides, Maharaj have special mercy of Narasimha Dev. That is why in spite of so many difficulties he is performing so many missions one after another.”
Temple president Mohan Rupa Prabhu poetically glorified Maharaj. “Jayapataka means victory flag. Prabhupad gave the responsibilities to develop Mayapur and he did with élan. But he never takes credit for it. He gives all the credit to Prabhupad. Mahraraj is upset that he has not been able to look after Mayapur as before. He displays the qualities of immense determination, perseverance and tolerance. Maharaj has disciples all over worlds. Even in Muslim countries he has so many disciples. During the Navadipa Parikrama Mandal he used to deliver lectures from Los Angeles everyday and he was doing Mansik seva everyday,” says temple president Mohan Rupa Das.
Senior devotee Hayagriva prabhu also described those difficult days of Maharaj in Mayapur in an interesting manner. “Jayapataka Swami used to travel on Cycle in Mayapur to save money while he came to Mayapur. He has greatest contribution to Namahatta and Navadipa Praikrama Mandal for making very successful,” says he.
Prabhupad’s disciple Sri Dham Prabhu came to glorify Jayapataka Swami Maharaj despite his ailing health.
Senior devotee Benu Krishan Das, Nitai Siromoni Das etc highly glorified Maharaj.
Seba Padma Mataji from Gurgaon glorified Maharaj very emotionally. “It is during the Vyasa Puaj ceremony that we get the opportunity how much aparadha we have done to Maharaj. Maharaj you are so merciful and gave us so much mercy but we are always engaged in sense gratification only. Maharaj please give us Bhakti and Krishna Prema to progress in devotional life”, says Seba Padma Mataji.
Maharaj was offered a big cake and 56 different dishes. The devotees had started their cooking from 7 a.m in the morning. They prepared the dishes which Mahara liked most.
Finally all the devotees had joined Arti and did ecstatic Kirtan and every one began to dance in transcendental mood. After the ceremony was over all joined the joined Sumptuous Ekadashi feast Prasadam. Tomorrow devotees are giving a great love feast in honour of Maharaj at the Temple hall.

When I look at my previous life before I came under the shelter of your lotus feet, which was sinful, lusty and bewildering, I realize the cooling effect of your lotus feet which soothes the burning pain in my heart. Unfortunately whenever I forget to be under your shelter, I again come back to the same previous material modes. Guru Maharaj! Please bless me with the spiritual strength so that I never forget the shelter of your lotus feet.
Your life is an example for every one. Your recent ill health situation which you are handling with strong will and determination teaches us a lesson and instructs us how to handle certain situations. It is amazing to know even during extreme difficult situations your enthusiasm to preach and bringing conditioned souls near to Krsna was ever increasing. All Glories to your preaching mission!!! Please keep me engaged in your transcendental preaching service forever.
Your desire to spread Namahatta preaching all over the world inspires us. We have personally seen the wide spread Namahatta programs during the Lord Chaitanya's 500th sanyas anniversary Yatra. We had blessed with the association of HH Gouranga Prem Maharaj who kindly showed us many namahatta's around 2000 working successfully. It was an eye opening yatra for me. Guru Maharaj, please bless me to do whatever the best possible I can to spread the preaching mission of Lord Chaitanya, wherever Iam positioned by your grace.

Dearest Guru Maharaj, My beloved spiritual father savior of the fallen souls and well wisher of the entire universe. I am falling at your lotus feet with great awe and reverence, begging you to kindly accept these most humbly offered obeisance.
On this day of your appearance I feel myself so fortunate to glorify you. I am immature to glorify you properly on your appearance day. Kindly accept this attempt as I am trying to praise your qualities and activities.
O greatest of greatest souls, you have given so many hearts a reason to beat, darkened eyes a reason to see. All the Vedic scriptures sing of your character. May I also learn these prayers and they may enter the core of my heart? May I serve you in truth birth after birth? May my mouth sing only of your praises and reject everything else.
Gurudeva, you give me so much, but foolishly I am too slow to take. I don’t know how to glorify you Gurudeva. You have showered your mercy on me in many different ways.
Gurudeva this year when you came to Delhi you have given me special chance to serve you and your servants who are serving you. You have given me the chance to associate with you. That time was the Golden Period of my life. Those days were very blissful. I will never forget those days. You have given me so much blessings and I was very happy to serve you. I feel myself very fortunate that you have chosen me to associate withy you, serve you because once I have heard that only by the special mercy of spiritual master one can associate with spiritual master and serve him.
Gurudeva that time I realized that how much you love me but I am still stone hearted that I don’t have any love in my heart .Every time you enquire about my spiritual life. For my happiness you have also installed my deities and given them a very beautiful name “Sachisoot Nitaichand”. I am so fallen and rotten but still you have accepted me as your spiritual daughter. Thanks for being so merciful to me. Sorry Gurudeva as I feel that due to me you are suffering in this material world. I have given you so many troubles.
Gurudeva you are a perfect Guru and you know all the needs, problems and mood of your disciple and I will promise to learn to understand your desire.
I will always pray to Sri Sri Narsimha Deva that he will protect you from all the miseries and will give you good health and strength to walk. I will also pray to Narsimha Deva to give you healthy long life so you can deliver more and more fallen souls like me.
On your most sacred Vyasa Puja day, I beg to pray for your desire to be my desire; I pray that your instructions may be my life and soul. Please give me the shade of your lotus feet so that I may eternally serve you.
Gurudeva kindly be with me always. I your new born baby needs YDG the most as we need to learn stand and walk in our spiritual life. Kindly always stay with me .I need you the most.
In order to chant your glories I will need millions and millions of births but your glories will make such births bearable.

Today is the most important day in my life; as this day you appeared amongst us at the behest of the Lord just to deliver fallen souls like me. It has been only 6 months since I was blessed by you with my first initiation, but the time since then has been full of realizations and new spiritual experiences due to your blessings. Keeping you at the centre of my life, each day I can feel how your causeless mercy flows unconditionally in the upkeep of my devotional service. I am thankful to Lord Krishna, who has mercifully sent you as my master and savior.
It is extremely inspiring to see that in spite of your physical condition; you are tirelessly distributing the mercy of Lord Caitanya and Srila Prabhupada to each and every one of us. Although you are far away, yet you have very mercifully provided us your kind association through lectures and live internet broadcasts. In every activity of yours, you set an example for us and help us strengthen our commitment and conviction to Srila Prabhupada and ISKCON. You teach us the mood of becoming an eternal servitor of one’s spiritual master by displaying your desire to serve Srila Prabhupada’s mission in spite of all discomfort and inconvenience that may arise due to the body. Guru-Maharaj, please instill in my heart a drop of that mood of servitor ship for your divine grace as you have for Srila Prabhupada.
I, most fervently, pray to Lord NarsimhaDev that you quickly recover and start traveling to accomplish your objective of ‘nagar gram tarine’. I pray to Srimati Radharani to please make you walk and dance again; so that you can go everywhere and give your mercy to undeserving souls like me.

It gives us immense pleasure to think that, 61 years ago, on this day, you had been sent to this planet by the Supreme Lord with huge assignment of fulfilling the duties of Sankirtan Movement of Caitanya Mahaprabhu and to assist your spiritual Father Srila Prabhupada. So this 61st anniversary of your appearance in this planet is very auspicious and meaningful to all the conditioned souls who are wandering in this prison.
We do not have any quality to glorify Your Vyasa-Puja , neither can we find any appropriate words to glorify You, the only thing which comes to our mind is that You are so merciful, so compassionate, so tolerant, so kind hearted and an expert mind reader also. This was evident from your dealings during your recent visit to Radha Parthasarathi Temple (Delhi ISKCON) and a short stay at Apollo Hospital for medical treatment. In spite of Your ill health and doctor’s restriction on medical grounds You came down from Your living room, sitting uncomfortably on a wheel-chair to the prasadam hall where temple president H.G.Mohanrupa prabhu had arranged everything very nicely for the initiation programme and You awarded initiation to all the devotees who already took Your shelter and were looking for mercy, waiting under Your big merciful umbrella, thus giving them an opportunity for liberation from maya and becoming members of ISKCON family. Also one day after returning from the hospital, the prabhujis at your service were taking you on the wheel chair to your room directly and were requesting everybody to move away as you needed rest. But you knew that many disciples of yours were waiting eagerly for your darshan. While the prabhujis were driving the wheel chair to the room, at the door itself you blocked them from taking you inside with your hands and instructed them to take you to the place where the disciples were waiting. Hari Bol! Then we had Guru Puja over there.
You are Srila Prabhupada’s true representative and you demonstrated this with transcendental wisdom by centering everything on the Supreme Lord. You are engaging everyone else too in this devotional service.
The results of Navadip Parikrama have been offered to our dear most Gurumaharaj for his good health that will help him in taking forward the mission of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. On this most auspicious day we pray to Lord Nrisimhadev to always protect You and for Your quick recovery in order to carry out Srila Prbahupada’s mission in full swing.

You are always present there with me, holding my hand just like a father holding her daughter’s hand in order to make her feel secure. On one side you act like a father, on the other side you are as innocent as a child with deep blue eyes.
We are eager to prepare your favorite prasadam ‘jhingha posto’. We are praying to Krsna to bless us with this service. We request Sri Sri Radha Madhav, Lord Gauranga and Sri Nrisimhadev to let us have your darshan and blessings. Every moment passed in your loving association becomes an asset forever. Although we couldn’t have you this year in Mayapur but we are eagerly waiting Your Vyasa Puja. We are very happy to hear about the good progress of your health. We all are praying hard to Sri Nrisimhadev for your quick recovery and good health and also help you in your preaching work.

On this auspicious day we pray to Lord Narsimha Dev and Lord Jagannath to make you alright and get you back to your normal schedule as soon as possible. We most of your Delhi disciples have committed to chant 4 rounds extra and chant Narsimha Kavach as directed by HH Bhakti Puroshattam Maharaj.
Gurumaharaj! We consider ourselves as most fortunate soul to have you as our Guru and relieved that we have someone who will take care of us as you have accepted conditioned souls like as your Disciples. Whenever we sit to write our offering to you we find ourselves so insignificant and are unable to find suitable words and language that can describe your causeless mercy and compassion towards the fallen and conditioned souls.
It is said in Srimad Bhagvatam that even though the Anant Shesha has thousand tongue and mouths, He is unable to glorify the Supreme Personality of Godhead. We know you are the messenger of Lord Chaitanya sent by Him to help Srila Prabhupada in his mission to deliver all the conditioned soul. Lord Chaitanya incarnated to deliver all the sinful people in the Kaliyuga and He showed this to us by His own example as a devotee. You being the associate of Lord Chaitanya have the same very mood and you are also showering your mercy on every body.
We always have a feeling Krsna consciousness was never a very scary thing for us under your guidance and support. You have always showered your mercy and accepted us despite all our faults. We am afraid to think what would have happened had we not met you for we would not have the opportunity to join this glorious Krsna consciousness movement which Srila Prahupad had started.
As we are full of faults, we consider ourselves unworthy of your mercy and compassion. We sometime realize that we have become more lenient towards our devotional service because of your mercy and compassion towards us. It is said rightly that there are some rascals who don’t understand even by seeing and hearing the shastra many times. We are the same, in spite of hearing it every day that perfection of the life is to serve Krsna we are always busy in serving our own senses....knowing that devotee should be enthusiastic we are always lazy, constantly hearing that surrender to spiritual master and krsna is the only way to perfect our life my, our false ego doesn’t allow us to do so......in spite of hearing always that we can approach Lord Chaitanya only by humility , we are always puffed up without any qualification.....endless things are there to improve and find no hope other than your lotus feet.
Please Guru Maharaja engages these fallen condition souls to your services. We are already lost in Maya help us to cross over it....
We beg your mercy so that we can improve my chanting and devote myself to the service of the Lord and His devotees sincerely. Going back home back to Godhead is not our aspiration; we just want to serve you in this life to purify my consciousness. We want to use all that I have in the service of krsna and Guru. Please help us to serve you and the mission of Srila Prahupad. O greatest of greatest souls, you have given so many hearts a reason to beat, darkened eyes a reason to see. All the Vedic scriptures sing of your character. It has been only 6 months since I was blessed by you with my first initiation, but the time since then has been full of realizations and new spiritual experiences due to your blessings. Keeping you at the centre of my life, each day I can feel how your causeless mercy flows unconditionally in the upkeep of my devotional service. I am thankful to Lord Krishna, who has mercifully sent you as my master and savior.
It is extremely inspiring to see that in spite of your physical condition; you are tirelessly distributing the mercy of Lord Caitanya and Srila Prabhupada to each and every one of us. It gives us immense pleasure to think that, 61 years ago, on this day, you had been sent to this planet by the Supreme Lord with huge assignment of fulfilling the duties of Sankirtan Movement of Caitanya Mahaprabhu and to assist your spiritual Father Srila Prabhupada. So this 61st anniversary of your appearance in this planet is very auspicious and meaningful to all the conditioned souls who are wandering in this prison.
We do not have any quality to glorify Your Vyasa-Puja , neither can we find any appropriate words to glorify You, the only thing which comes to our mind is that You are so merciful, so compassionate, so tolerant, so kind hearted and an expert mind reader also. This was evident from your dealings during your recent visit to Radha Parthasarathi Temple (Delhi ISKCON) and a short stay at Apollo Hospital for medical treatment. In spite of Your ill health and doctor’s restriction on medical grounds You came down from Your living room, sitting uncomfortably on a wheel-chair to the prasadam hall where temple president H.G.Mohanrupa prabhu had arranged everything very nicely for the initiation programme and You awarded initiation to all the devotees who already took Your shelter and were looking for mercy, waiting under Your big merciful umbrella, thus giving them an opportunity for liberation from maya and becoming members of ISKCON family. Also one day after returning from the hospital, the prabhujis at your service were taking you on the wheel chair to your room directly and were requesting everybody to move away as you needed rest. But you knew that many disciples of yours were waiting eagerly for your darshan. While the prabhujis were driving the wheel chair to the room, at the door itself you blocked them from taking you inside with your hands and instructed them to take you to the place where the disciples were waiting. Hari Bol! Then we had Guru Puja over there.
You are Srila Prabhupada’s true representative and you demonstrated this with transcendental wisdom by centering everything on the Supreme Lord. You are engaging everyone else too in this devotional service.
The results of Navadip Parikrama have been offered to our dear most Gurumaharaj for his good health that will help him in taking forward the mission of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Gurumaharaj! We always have a feeling Krsna consciousness was never a very scary thing for us under your guidance and support. You have always showered your mercy and accepted us despite all our faults. We am afraid to think what would have happened had we not met you for we would not have the opportunity to join this glorious Krsna consciousness movement which Srila Prahupad had started.
As we are full of faults, we consider ourselves unworthy of your mercy and compassion. We sometime realize that we have become more lenient towards our devotional service because of your mercy and compassion towards us. It is said rightly that there are some rascals who don’t understand even by seeing and hearing the shastra many times. We are the same, in spite of hearing it every day that perfection of the life is to serve Krsna we are always busy in serving our own senses....knowing that devotee should be enthusiastic we are always lazy, constantly hearing that surrender to spiritual master and krsna is the only way to perfect our life my, our false ego doesn’t allow us to do so......in spite of hearing always that we can approach Lord Chaitanya only by humility , we are always puffed up without any qualification.....endless things are there to improve and find no hope other than your lotus feet.
